Importance of Orthodontic Care
Sure, it’s not mandatory to get orthodontic treatment on misaligned teeth, but if your teeth are less than perfect, it can affect your body in many ways. Here are some reasons why orthodontics are important:
Orthodontics plays a crucial role in enhancing a smile and cosmetic facial appearance. Misaligned teeth and gaps can significantly impact a person’s smile, which can impact their self-esteem and confidence. Orthodontics can improve your self-image by aligning the teeth and jaws. This helps create a beautiful and harmonious smile.
Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean and maintain, which helps reduce the risk of dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. When teeth are overcrowded or misaligned, it becomes challenging to brush and floss them effectively. This can lead to plaque buildup and oral health issues. Orthodontic treatment aligns the teeth, reducing the risk of dental complications and making healthy smiles.
A misaligned bite can cause functional problems such as difficulty in chewing, speaking, and even breathing. Orthodontics helps correct various bite issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite. Aligning the jaws and teeth properly helps improve the bite function, which allows for better chewing and speaking.
Orthodontics not only corrects existing dental problems but also focuses on preventive care. Early orthodontic intervention can identify and address developing orthodontic issues in children at an early stage. It can identify potential problems and guide jaw growth.
Orthodontists provide stable and long-lasting results. By properly aligning the teeth and jaws, orthodontics helps distribute the biting forces evenly, reducing the risk of excessive wear, tooth fractures, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Orthodontics improves current dental health and serves as a preventive measure. If you have been putting off straightening your teeth for whatever reason, now’s the time to seek orthodontic work. There are so many options nowadays. Let Hinsdale Ortho help you achieve your smile goals. Come meet our Brookfield team today and get started.
How to get the perfect healthy smile through Orthodontic treatment
Damon braces are similar to traditional metal braces, but a little different. Damon comes in metal and ceramic varieties. The ceramic type is tooth-colored, so while these braces are not totally transparent, they are pretty close, especially if you choose clear, white, or tooth-colored wires. Ceramic Damon braces offer a low-profile look, so they’re ideal for teens and adults who may be self-conscious about having braces.
Damon metal braces are strong and effective, but they’re different from traditional orthodontic options in that they are smaller and less noticeable thanks to sleeker brackets and light-colored wires. So what makes them different from traditional metal braces? the answer: It’s all in how they work to align teeth.
Damon braces use a self-ligating system. This involves a slide mechanism that is attached to each bracket. Each bracket is attached to a memory wire, which reduces the amount of pressure that patients feel. The sliding mechanism gradually moves your teeth continuously, tightening over time. Damon use less force overall when compared to traditional braces. This difference means less pain and discomfort for patients. It also means fewer office visits, making life more convenient.
If a patient desires straighter teeth but braces just aren’t your thing, aligners might be an excellent treatment option. Clear aligners are virtually invisible, so you don’t have to be worried about others noticing. They align your teeth without brackets or wires. You take out the aligners to eat and clean your teeth, so you can continue to eat your favorite foods.
At Hinsdale Orthodontics, we offer two types of clear aligners: Invisalign and Spark. They both work pretty much the same in that they put pressure on your teeth so they move slowly over time. Aligners are switched out every few weeks as your teeth move.
While Invisalign and Spark are similar in many ways, they have some differences, such as the following:
- Material. Both use clear material, but it is different. Invisalign uses SmartTrack, while Spark uses TruGen. TruGen is said to be more comfortable to use.
- Customization. Invisalign is known for its highly customized treatment approach. It uses attachments and other approaches to help straighten teeth more quickly. Spark does not have as many customizations.
- Availability. Invisalign is widely available and used by orthodontists around the world. The company has a large network of trained Invisalign providers, so it is easy to find. Spark is a newer brand, so it may have a more limited availability, depending on your location.
- Stain resistance. Spark is a newer product and its material has an advantage when it comes to stain resistance. It is designed to resist staining from coffee, tea, and other beverages. Invisalign’s SmartTrack material is also resistant to staining, but not as much.
- Cost. The cost of Invisalign vs. Spark will vary depending on the individual case. However, Invisalign is generally more expensive than Spark due to the wider range of treatment options and features available. Spark does not have as many features and treatment options available, making the cost lower.
Whatever the best solution is, we always listen to the patient and parents to ensure we are providing the best treatments at our office. Contact our Brookfield Orthodontist office to see if you’re a candidate for clear aligners. We offer easy payment options and will check to see how your insurance can help out.
When to Start Orthodontics
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child get an orthodontic checkup by age 7. This may seem like a young, but the truth is that some children start developing bite issues by this age. Nearly 20% of kids between the ages of 7 and 10 need early treatment for issues such as overcrowding, gaps, and permanent teeth not erupting correctly.
At Hinsdale Ortho, our office treats your children as if they were our own. We’ll provide them with the best possible orthodontic care in a child-friendly atmosphere.
The consultation appointment may reveal that your child’s bite is fine and braces aren’t needed. Or we may identify a developing problem, but recommend monitoring your child’s growth and development. We will wait and then begin the treatment process when orthodontic and developmental cues indicate that it’s an appropriate time for your child. We’ll never perform treatment too early or when it’s not necessary. In any case, by properly aligning your child’s teeth and jaws, they can have a healthy bite.
The teen years are also a popular time for orthodontic treatment, as most permanent teeth begin to settle into place between the ages of 12 and 16. A teen patient is well-prepared to understand their treatment responsibilities and put in the time to care for their oral health. This is a good treatment time to start comprehensive braces or clear orthodontic treatment. Your child will be beaming with confidence as they go through high school, college, and beyond with beautiful teeth to show off in photos.
It’s never too late for Brookfield residents to fix their smiles. A beautiful smile has no age limit at our practice. If you never got the orthodontic care you needed as a child, better late than never. Adult patients are better able to appreciate the many benefits of orthodontic treatment after having lived with unfavorable smiles and bites for years. At our Hinsdale Ortho office, adults make up approximately 20% of orthodontic patients. If your teeth are shifting or you’re embarrassed about your smile, get the process started today by scheduling an appointment.
