Hinsdale Metal Braces
Traditional braces have been around for a long time, and they’re probably the most recognizable symbol of orthodontics in Hinsdale, IL, and the surrounding areas.
FAQS About Braces
Efficient, inexpensive, and smaller than ever, metal braces are a great option for accomplishing all sorts of orthodontic adjustments. Also, with Damon Braces from Hinsdale Ortho, metal braces are faster and more comfortable than they’ve ever been.
Before applying your brackets, Dr. Riccio, Dr. Blair, and the team at Hinsdale Ortho will take thorough photos and X-rays of your mouth. Sometimes we’ll use our high-tech oral scanner to scan each of your teeth and make a virtual map of your gums and mouth.
This process takes only 10-15 minutes and provides an extremely accurate 3D view of your mouth.
Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will use the X-ray and information from other scans to create your customized treatment plan. This will include how each tooth needs to be moved in order to get it in the best possible position.
Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair use this information to decide how to place your brackets for maximum comfort and efficiency. Between our experienced doctors and the state-of-the-art orthodontic software they use, braces have never been so painless.
Once the brackets have been attached, our doctors will insert your archwire. The Damon Braces we use utilize a patented slide mechanism to connect archwires to the bracket while allowing the wire to move freely, thereby, reducing friction and improving oral hygiene by eliminating elastic ties.
Bends in the wire will provide different types of pull and pressure on different teeth. Bending wires is how most orthodontists generate specific and precise movements.
Metal braces have historically had a reputation for being awkward and obvious. Thanks to innovations in modern orthodontics, you’ll enjoy versions that are smaller, less conspicuous, and more comfortable than ever before.
At Hinsdale Ortho, we’re proud to offer the latest in braces technology to our patients of all ages in Hinsdale and the surrounding area!
Sleeker brackets and lighter wires make our braces look and feel better. They also mean that you’ll have a happier, less irritated mouth.
Damon Braces in Hinsdale are smaller and less visible than traditional, bulkier brackets, meaning you’ll enjoy a subtle treatment option that allows you to smile with confidence through your entire treatment.
The strength, durability, and affordability of traditional metal braces keep them the top treatment for our Hinsdale orthodontic patients, year after year!
This is what everyone wants to know, but it’s one of the only questions for which there isn’t a set answer. Every mouth all across Hinsdale is different, and every patient responds to treatment in their own way. Treatment time with metal braces will be different every time.
The average time spent in metal braces is around 18 to 22 months but will vary depending on the individual treatment plan from Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair.
At Hinsdale Ortho, we have patients in braces for as little as six months, but more complex issues can take over three years to complete the process. It all depends on your personal orthodontic situation, which will be expertly assessed and accounted for by our doctors.
With metal braces treatment with Dr. Riccio, Dr. Blair, and the team at Hinsdale Ortho, you’ll start to see signs of improvement in just a short time, and that will grow your confidence during the treatment process.
All About Braces At Hinsdale Ortho
These orthodontic workhorses have a long history of successful treatment and are great at correcting many oral issues. At Hinsdale Ortho, metal braces continue to be the top orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages.
They can work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other treatments might, shortening overall treatment time without compromising on quality.
Metal braces are a cost-effective option because they don’t require some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments do.
Modern braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive than ever. Metal braces are built from high-grade stainless steel and are the most common type of braces you’ll see.
Brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth and connect to one another by an archwire, helping to guide your teeth where Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair want them to move.
What Are Braces Made of?
The brackets that Hinsdale Ortho uses are durable and made from a mix of stainless steel, nickel, and other mouth-safe metals.
Our Damon brackets have a slide mechanism through which Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will thread a wire. The bracket is then secured by closing a latch to securely hold the wire in place while allowing for tightening or adjustment at future appointments.
This is what Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will use to attach the brackets to your teeth. It’s common to attach the bracket directly to the tooth with mouth-safe, non-toxic glue. This glue will be fully and safely removed at the end of your orthodontic procedure without damage to your teeth or mouth.
This thin piece of metal runs from one bracket to another. Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will change the shape and curvature of the wire to move your teeth in the right direction.
The wire will attach all of your bottom or upper teeth together in many cases. We might occasionally shorten the wire if connecting just a few teeth is better for your treatment plan.
If Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair determine that you need bite correction, elastics are essential. They’re generally strung between an upper bracket hook and a lower bracket hook, and will gently pull the upper jaw backward to correct an overbite, or the lower jaw back to correct an underbite.
We may use rubber bands for many different situations, especially when we want to put extra shifting pressure on the teeth or jaws.
These are stainless steel rings that are attached firmly to your teeth using dental bonding agents. These bands can provide an anchor for your braces and orthodontic appliances, but they’re not needed in every case.
Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will determine if your treatment will benefit from orthodontic bands at your initial consultation.
These small elastic “donuts” or rings can be used by Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair to create space in between your teeth when needed, typically before bands are placed. They’re also referred to as separators.
