Hinsdale Orthodontist & Pediatric Dentist
Meet Susan Blair, DDS
Being an orthodontist and kids dentist is my dream job! I love being able to help people gain confidence and improve their health in a fun environment. Creating individualized smiles is my passion. I enjoy getting to know my patients, their families, learning about their lives, and interests.
Making sure my patients are comfortable is extremely important to me. I have a background in pediatric dentistry, which has taught me to be extra sensitive to the needs of my patients (of all ages)!
Education and Background
I love learning about a wide variety of subjects, which made deciding on a career path difficult. I followed in my family's footsteps to Oklahoma State University where I majored in Art History and Physiology. I was considering graduate school to become a museum curator or a doctor when I went on a summer-long medical service trip to India.
During my time in Mumbai, I rotated through a cleft lip and palate hospital. There, my interest in dentistry was sparked when I realized how much dentistry can improve quality of life for patients.
When I returned home, I applied to dental school at the University of Oklahoma. I was fortunate at OU to find a strong clinical foundation and great pediatric dentistry and orthodontics programs.
My energetic personality and my love for kids prompted me to become a pediatric dentist, so I went on to complete my two-year pediatric dentistry residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. I absolutely loved living in NYC and the program at Montefiore.
I was always interested in orthodontics, but realized I wanted to know all the details about my pediatric patients' treatments! I applied to orthodontic residencies all over the country, but was so happy to spend three more years at Montefiore.
I practiced in Brooklyn, NY and Chicagoland for over two years as a pediatric dentist and orthodontist. While I am now concentrating solely on orthodontics, my training as a pediatric dentist allows me to have a deeper understanding of growth and development of facial structures and dentition, enriching my skills as an orthodontist.

Outside the Office
Growing up in Oklahoma City around friendly people with strong family values helped shape me into the person I am today, so my family and friends are very important to me.
I absolutely love to travel and am fortunate to have been to many places all around the world. I continue to frequent museums and learn about history and art. I am passionate about animal rescue and have always been involved with local humane societies. I also enjoy running, particularly training for half-marathons.
My husband, Dr. Nick Riccio, is a Glen Ellyn native. He often talks about the benefits of growing up in a community with a small town feel outside of Chicago. I have grown to appreciate the charm and sense of community in the western suburbs of Chicago as well.
We recently welcomed our baby boy, Massimo, into the world and we're bursting with love! We are very excited to call Hinsdale home and raise our family here!
