The Invisalign and Spark systems are made of clear, lightweight, plastic aligners that fit over your teeth and are designed to straighten your smile. They're removable, which makes it easier to brush and floss and eat and drink whatever you want.
Many orthodontic patients have stated that clear aligners are much more comfortable than traditional metal or clear braces and can still give you stunning results. Since they are nearly invisible, you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing!

At your free initial consultation at Hinsdale Ortho, we'll use our high-tech iTero digital scanner to create a 3D image of your mouth without any goopy impressions. Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will make your first set of custom-fit aligners from these images, and you'll set off on your tooth-straightening journey. If you ever have any questions, our orthodontists are available to answer them through the entire treatment!
Barring extreme cases, you'll likely wear your aligners for 6-12 months, and will typically use 18-30 sets throughout the course of your treatment at Hinsdale Ortho.
You wear the trays for about 22 hours a day but can take them out to brush your teeth and eat.
Based on your individual needs, and the treatment plan put in place by Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair, you'll wear several sets of trays throughout your orthodontic treatment. You'll start to notice a change in just a few months!

Your treatment time can also be significantly shortened with the use of AcceleDent® Aura, which is a device used for 20 minutes daily in conjunction with your other treatments. When using AcceleDent®, each aligner can usually be worn for half the time, often less than one week per aligner!

Wire
This thin piece of metal runs from one bracket to another. Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will change the shape and curvature of the wire to move your teeth in the right direction.
The wire will attach all of your bottom or upper teeth together in many cases. We might occasionally shorten the wire if connecting just a few teeth is better for your treatment plan.
Elastics
If Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair determine that you need bite correction, elastics are essential. They're generally strung between an upper bracket hook and a lower bracket hook, and will gently pull the upper jaw backward to correct an overbite, or the lower jaw back to correct an underbite.
We may use rubber bands for many different situations, especially when we want to put extra shifting pressure on the teeth or jaws.
Orthodontic Bands
These are stainless steel rings that are attached firmly to your teeth using dental bonding agents. These bands can provide an anchor for your braces and orthodontic appliances, but they're not needed in every case.
Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair will determine if your treatment will benefit from orthodontic bands at your initial consultation.
Spacers
These small elastic "donuts" or rings can be used by Dr. Riccio and Dr. Blair to create space in between your teeth when needed, typically before bands are placed. They're also referred to as separators.
